Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of saman (Pithecelobium saman Jacq. (Benth)) shade on guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq) growth and development during the dry season. Three treatments, T1=0 % shade ; T2=50 % shade and T3=100 % shade, were blocked with three repetitions in each block ; a split-plot design was used with effect of block in the whole plot and time x treatment effects in the subplot. Analysis of variance was performed with the GLM procedure of SAS. Results indicated that shade did not produce any effect on growth, leaf area, chemical composition and dry matter of guinea grass during dry season.
